Welcome to
PINOY CHATTER. This is the launch of what we hope will be a fun way to share what is happening at the Philippine Civic & Cultural Center of Wisconsin.
First the PCCCF asked for volunteers to take on this task and it was picked up by Linda Ravelo and I. That is the beauty of retirement - you can pick and chose the activities that you want to pursue and I guess Linda and I are going to see if this is something that all of you will enjoy and if we have the ability to pull it off. Here goes....
If you haven't tried the cooking classes you are missing something. I am not a cook - my father was the chef in our family and I guess I always thought that that was how it was in every family. Imagine my surprise when I married and found out that it was one of the major tasks of a wife and mother. So, these classes interest me because you can watch gourmet cooks and how they achieve their scrumptious dishes.
Our chefs are Dr. Henry Ravelo and Dr. Letty Cueto - the events are fun, no pressure and you even get to taste the end product. Our last session featured shrimp in lobster sauce - again you will see that I need quite a bit of education - I love shrimp, I love lobster and I thought this is perfect for me - well, the lobster sauce I found out doesn't really have lobster as an ingredient. It is just the name that they have given this sauce.
My star rating for this meal was ***** - for those of you that know me, this is the highest compliment I can give you Henry.
If you frequent Zablocki you will now see that Jojo Ramos has started our children's library. It is her dream to have children not only feel comfortable with taking the time to read in the Parcon room, but once they are finished with their book, to bring it back and exchange it for another one. Potawatomi recently approved a grant for $10,000 for the PCCCF Literacy Program. We can't wait to see what Jojo will create that will inspire our youth.
Our
first event was the Literacy Workshop which was attended by close to 40
children. The children were able to select a brand new book that they
could take home. The day also included crafts, singing, games and
entertainment all centering around the "Frozen" theme that seems to be
so popular with the kids these days.

So, you can see that our center hosts a variety of events. It has also been a great place to celebrate life events like the retirement of Zen Edralin after 49 years in the nursing profession. Zen had been involved in so many different aspects of the Filipino community and friends and coworkers from each of these important parts of her life came together to let her know she was appreciated.
Well that about does it for this posting. I am off to the FAAWIS Bowling event in support of the FMC. Let me know what you think about our blog. Linda and I will be collaborating on more thoughts - pictures - happenings. Hope you enjoyed the chatter and will a regular visitor.
